The Night That Modern Live Sound Was Born Now here is an example of being in the right place at the right time. Having some A-4's on hand didn't hurt either. Doug

+1!

Great read. Knew about Bear (RIP), but not about Bob.

I had a pair of Bob's white 'glass horn stacks like those pictured in ~'79. Heil road-boxed active XOs and amps too. Got the load for $500, used them a couple years, then in a pinch, sold them... for $500. Had to demo them 1 nite in the club that wanted to buy them. Jazz club on South Paseo in KCMO. Police were there at least 3 times. I was one nervous, long-haired honky, tell ya what... Come last call the manger was nowhere to be found. I didn't want to leave the gear with no money, but when the waitress said "you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here", I think she meant it. Sat in my van a bit, and who pulls up but the manager. Got my money, and got home.

Pink Floyd and Company - Pink Floyd Articles and Reviews Since you brought up Pink Floyd here is a link on the evolution of their sound systems. I haven't had the opportunity to see them live, yet. Bfish, how did those Heil speakers sound, and what were they loaded with? Hope the link works.Doug

Man, Doug, "how did those speakers sound" Isn't logged among the fuzzy memories I have of those days. I remember not wanting to part with them. I just had 2 way stacks (less the mid horns in the picture). Probably comparable to a couple 816s under 288s on 311s. Never had any reason to open a single piece, so no idea what was inside. I have a picture somewhere, I'll see if I can find it for clues.

Re: 1970 Festival with Altecs

Thanks for all your responses. What a fun thread! Great pic of the Pink Floyd sound system Altec Best. If anyone had a chance to browse through Old Pinks flicker photos, there is a great shot of A4's with a layer of three horns on top
of a Very early Jefferson Airplane concert. Bfish, you got lucky on that deal in KC. Some people lost their shorts in those situations. Doug
